How did the 2008 BCA (Billiards Congress of America) National 8 Ball Pool Tournament turn out for me?
I’ve been back in town 4 days, I’m about caught up with my work load and I’m ready to spill the beans about the Vegas Pool Tournament.
I must confess that this was my worst performance ever in Vegas where the singles competition is concerned. This is the first time since the tournament was held in Denver which was late eighties (1988 or 1989), that I was 2 and out of the National tournament. (The Denver Nationals was my first major tournament 20 years back)
This year it was not because I played 2 bad dudes who ran out on me endlessly. It’s because I did not prepare for this tournament in the proper manner and my game was not anywhere near up to par. I did run racks in both of my matches, so I wasn’t totally asleep. On the other side of the coin, I missed a couple eight balls and general position on several shots. I gave my two opponents enough opportunities to make them look good.
I’ll be writing some future posts about the individual matches and there will be some cool content on the mental aspects of the game there as well. Stay tuned to this Blog Channel.
Two of my friends finished pretty good in the BCA Singles. Both of these guys have been friends of mine for over 20 years and I have spent some time playing out of town tournaments with both of them.
My friend Sam finished 13 through 16 in the Singles Mens open division. This is the division with the most entrants and it’s pretty tough to finish as well as Sam did. This was not a big surprise for anyone from Pueblo or Southern Colorado because Sam is a contender and finished 2nd in the same BCA open division several years back.
My friend Roy who played in the seniors singles division finished with a 4 way tie for 9th place. We refer to this a 9th through 12th. It’s nice when your friends do well and it’s fun to sweat their action. Last year my friend Carl was the National champion in the seniors devision and Roy’s significant other Debbie was the National Champion in the womans open a few years ago.
Our team had a bye the first round and then lost a match, won a match and then lost another one to finish out of the money. I will be posting about these matches individually as well.
I had a great time in Las Vegas, watched some great Pool and Billiards Action and did pretty well financially playing Video Keno. (Video Keno took away from my pool game and added to my bank roll.) I was there 7 days by myself and then my wife and 5 year old son joined me there for the last 5 days in Nevada.
Twelve days in Las Vegas is kind of a long time, isn’t it?
That’s it for now,
To Your Run Out Success.
